Portion of Herkimer Road shut down following one-car accident

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A portion of Herkimer Road in the City of Utica was closed for a short period of time on Wednesday after a one-car accident on Wednesday morning.

Police said that a 68 year old driver had passed out behind the wheel and crashed his vehicle into a utility pole just before Noon on Wednesday on Herkimer Road in Utica between Jimmy Boulevard and Keyes Road.

The pole and wires fell to the road and the car was severely damaged.

The man is expected to be okay and police say they believe he had some type of medical episode, possibly related to his diabetes.

Herkimer Road was shut down from Keyes Road to Jimmy Boulevard while crews attended to the accident scene.
