One male victim dead after Route 20 accident

Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies confirm the victim pronounced dead on after an accident early Monday morning on Route 20 in the Town of Sangerfield is a man.

According to officials, a call was received about 6:45 a.m. that a driver had struck a person who was lying in the center of the eastbound lane of Route 20, just south of Waterville. The driver said he was moving into the passing lane, when he realized a person was lying in the road. He tried to swerve to avoid the person, but was unsuccessful.

The driver turned around, pulled the person to the side of the road and called 911. The person who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are asking that anyone driving on Route 20 before 6:45 a.m. and saw a person walking along the roadway or any vehicle pulled to the side of the road in the Town of Sangerfield to contact the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit at 765-2208 or 765-2226.
