[(WKTV) - Susan B. Anthony once said, "Every woman should have a purse of her own."
During the struggles for equality, having a purse meant having the power to make decisions.
The Power of the Purse luncheon was Tuesday at the Radisson, and is put on by the Women's Fund of Herkimer and Oneida counties.
Since the group's inception, $200,000 in grants have been given to agencies that support women, and more than $100,000 have been given through Annie's fund, which provides help to individual women in a moment in need.
"We began this organization 16 years ago," said luncheon co-chair Carol Mandour. "When we began it, we focused on women and girls and we've continued that same focus, knowing that in the community we have a lot of women and girls who do need us."
Two Dreammaker awards were given out Tuesday. One was given to Dr. Murray Nusbaum, an OB-GYN who was a pioneer in women's health. He died in 2013.
Deb Galotti, the crises services director for the YWCA, received the other award.
