President of Legal Aid Society announces run for State Supreme Court

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - There are now five candidates running for a State Supreme Court Justice Seat.

On Thursday, a Syracuse man announced his intentions to run in the fifth district, which includes Lewis, Jefferson, Oswego, Onondaga, Herkimer and Oneida Counties.

Candidate Thomas Buckel Jr is the President of the Legal Aid Society in Utica and says he will bring 30 years experience to the judge's chair and will lead the way for reform.

"People feel very betrayed by institutions, whether it's government politics, whether it's banking...and there's one place in this country where people can turn - where they think they have a shot and that's the court," Buckel said.

There are three seats open and Buckel is one of five running. Lewis County Judge Charles Merrell, Attorney Erin Gall of New Hartford, Attorney Michael Young from Lowville, and Judge James McCluskey of Jefferson County have all announced they are running as well.
