Proceeds from 2012 Mayor's Gala presented to local organizations

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Two local organizations each received a check for $22,500 on Friday from funds generated by the 2012 Utica Mayor's Benefit Gala.

1,200 people attended the 2012 gala, held in April, and between sponsorships, ticket sales, and major in-kind donations, the amount raised totals $62,475.

Checks with a portion of that money were presented Friday to the Stevens Swan Humane Society and the Children's Museum in Utica.

Susan Palmieri, the wife's mayor and organizer of the event said that seeing these two organizations benefit from the efforts made all the work that went into the gala pay off.

"To see everyone come together, diversity was put aside, everyone was together. Everyone gave up their talents, everyone gave up their time. It was just magnificent. To know that we're going to help, it's just a wonderful feeling," Palmieri said.
