Proctor High School students spending break building robots

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - Several local high school students are doing something unique with their winter break -- building robots.

Proctor High School's Navy Junior ROTC program has teamed up with the Mohawk Valley Community College for what's called Sea Perch Robot Camp. The camp takes place all week on the MVCC campus.

The program shows the students how to create an underwater remotely operated vehicle, or an ROV.

"This program is designed to give students the hands-on exercise t show them the different aspects of science, technology and math in a practical sense," said Robert Pipe, naval science instructor.

Piper also said the goal of the program is to address a national shortage in people who work in the fields of science, technology and math.
