Proctor ROTC plans Cherry Blossom Trees in Utica

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The graduating members of the Junior ROTC at Proctor High School in Utica are certainly leaving quite a legacy behind.

The group raised money this school year to plant 83 cherry blossom trees in and around Proctor Park.

Each tree is in honor of a member of the U.S. Military who lost their life in action from world war one to the present, but this is just phase one of what will be a two or three year project.

ROTC Master Chief Mark Williamson said, "Today we're only doing 83, but by the next year and a half we will finish it out with over 300 cherry blossoms going all the way down he parkway, so it looks like Washington, D.C. in about five, six years."

This isn't the only community service project the Junior ROTC at Proctor has been involved with. The leaders say they perform between four and five thousand each year.
