Propane group calls on state to improve storage infrastructure

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - The U.S. propane industry is calling on New York State to take action on storage infrastructure projects to avoid future supply constraints and price spikes.

The New York Propane Gas Association says New Yorkers will pay 40 percent more for propane this winter, which comes out to about $84 million more in energy costs. Experts say it amounts to about $377 per household.

The state energy committee chairman was joined by the NYPGA this week calling for the improvements. The U.S. Energy Administration says residential propane prices are finally coming down.

While the price has dropped 24 cents in the past two weeks, federal officials say the price could climb again if cold weather continues.
