UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) – Seven buildings and four properties are up for auction in Utica.
Most of the properties have been tax foreclosed and have been off the tax roll for at least three years.
Gene Allen, the Marketing Director of the Urban Renewal Agency in the City of Utica said they make great starter homes or are fitting for those looking to retire and scale back.
Starting bids range per property, but bidding usually goes anywhere from $10,000 to $90,000.
The highest bidder wins and will put 20 percent down at the time of the auction and pay off the remainder when they close on the property. This usually happens about two weeks after the auction.
Each place requires some fixing up and taking care of outstanding liens that were unpaid by the previous owner.
Auctioning off properties benefits both the city and the community, according to Allen.
“When you have a vacant building it affects the whole neighborhood as far as the quality of life in the neighborhood and it’s an attraction for people who want to do vandalism, so it makes it much better for the city to have somebody living in the home, maintaining it, paying their taxes. It helps with the revenue for the city as well as the quality of life for the neighborhood in general,” said Allen.
The auction will be at Utica City Hall in Utica at 7 p.m. on July 18.
