Publication releases area schools' average SAT scores

(WKTV) - Buffalo Business First has compiled average SAT scores for 476 Upstate New York districts.

While more than 400 were analyzed, the publication ranked the 100 schools with the highest SAT scores. Among local schools ranked are Oneida High School at No. 95, Milford Central School is ranked No. 81, Cooperstown ranked No. 71, New Hartford Central School ranked No. 37, Clinton Central School at No. 36, Town of Webb School at No. 33, Hamilton Central School at No. 30 and Schenevus Central School at No. 18.

The SAT is used for college admissions. There are three parts to the test -- reading, math and writing. Each section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800 points a piece. The maximum combined score is 2,400.

Buffalo Business First obtained the information from the state education department. Some schools were not in the database, because of the small number of students participating. The data is based on 2012 testing. Private school data was not released.

Here is how area schools did on the test:

Adirondack: There were 45 students who took the test. The average reading score was 489; average math 490; average writing 452; The average total score was 1,431.

Camden: There were 103 students who took the test. The average reading score was 490; average math 498; average writing 455. The average total score was 1,443.

Canastota: There were 71 students who took the test. The average reading score was 501; average math 513; average writing 501. The average total score was 1,515.

Cherry Valley-Springfield: There were 34 students who took the test. The average reading score was 481; average math 475; average writing 485. The average total score was 1,441.

Clinton: There were 114 students who took the test. The average reading score was 541; average math was 539; average writing was 528. The average total score was 1,608.

Cooperstown: There were 70 students who took the test. The average reading score was 531; average math was 513; average writing was 518. The average total score was 1,562.

Dolgeville: There were 40 students who took the test. The average reading score was 488; average math 520; average writing 493. The average total 1,501.

Edmeston: There were 19 students who took the test. The average reading score was 453; average math 447; average writing 441. The average total score was 1,341.

Frankfort-Schuyler: There were 58 students who took the test. The average reading score was 488; average math 488; average writing 454. The average total score was 1,430.

Gilbertsville-Mount Upton: There were 17 students who took the test. The average reading score was 448; average math 471; average writing 451. The average total score was 1,370.

Hamilton: There were 41 students who took the test. The average reading score was 549; average math 538; average writing 530. The average total score was 1,617.

Herkimer: There were 55 students who took the test. The average reading score was 481; average math 468; average writing 467; The average total score was 1,416.

Holland Patent: There were 83 students who took the test. The average reading score was 493; average math 511; average writing 467. The average total score is 1,471.

Laurens: There were 15 students who took the test. The average reading score was 491; average math 493; average writing 461. The average total score was 1,445.

Little Falls: There were 41 students who took the test. The average reading score was 500; average math 514; average writing 484. The average total score was 1,498.

Milford: There were 16 students who took the test. The average reading score was 514; average math was 526; average writing 514. The average total score was 1,554.

Mohawk: There were 28 students who took the test. The average reading score was 497; average math 496. average writing 477. The average score is 1,470.

Morris: There were 18 students who took the test. The average reading score was 518; average math 486; average writing 463. The average total score is 1,467.

Morrisville-Eaton: There were 42 students who took the test. The average reading score was 458; average math 464; average writing 434. The average total score was 1,355.

Mount Markham: There were 47 students who took the test. The average reading score was 486; average math 501; average writing 464. The average score was 1,451.

New Hartford: There were 149 students who took the test. The average reading score was 537; average math was 546; average writing was 522. The average total score was 1,605.

New York Mills: There were 35 students who took the test. The average reading score was 496; average math 490; average writing 471. The average total score is 1,457.

Oneida: There were 87 students who took the test. The average reading score was 516; average math 535; average writing 491. The average total score was 1,542.

Oneonta: There were 102 students who took the test. The average reading score was 491; average math 495; average writing 479. The average total score is 1,465.

Oriskany: There were 30 students who took the test. The average reading score was 501; average math 524; average writing 476. The average total score was 1,501.

Poland: There were 23 students who took the test. The average reading score was 491; average math 494; average writing 467. The average total score is 1,452.

Remsen: There were 24 students who took the test. The average reading score was 498; average math 492; average writing 448. The average total score was 1,438.

Richfield Springs: There were 22 students who took the test. The average reading score was 443; average math 466; average writing 441. The average total score was 1,350.

Rome: There were 182 students who took the test. The average reading score was 457; average math 467; average writing 446. The average total score was 1,370.

Sauquoit Valley: There were 42 students who took the test. The average reading score was 515; average math 526; average writing 493. The average total score was 1,534.

Schenevus: There were 12 students who took the test. The average reading score was 553; the average math score was 551; the average writing score was 537. The average total score was 1,641.

Sherburne-Earlville: There were 58 students who took the test. The average reading score was 527; average math 528; average writing 479. Average total score was 1,534.

Stockbridge Valley: There were 31 students who took the test. The average reading score was 477; average math 482; average writing 449. The average total score was 1,408.

Utica: There were 209 students who took the test. The average reading score was 435; average math 439; average writing 421. The average total score was 1,295.

Untageo: There were 38 students who took the test. The average reading score was 490; average math 496; average writing 457. The average total score was 1,443.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill: There were 79 students who took the test. The average reading score is 504; average math 513; average writing is 481. The average total score is 1,498.

Waterville: There were 34 students who took the test. The average reading score was 498; average math 494; average writing 475. The average total score is 1,467.

Town of Webb: There were 20 students who took the test. The average reading score was 519; average math score was 574; average writing score was 522. The average total score was 1,615.

West Canada Valley: There were 36 students who took the test. The average reading score was 495; average math 512; average writing 484. The average total score is 1,491.

Westmoreland: There were 45 students who took the test. The average reading score is 511; average math 497; average writing is 489. The average total score is 1,497.

Whitesboro: There were 164 students who took the test. The average reading score was 481; average math 503; average writing 470. The average total score is 1,454.
