RCIL celebrates signing of Americans with Disabilities Act

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Friday marks the 23rd anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

In honor of that, the Resource Center for Independent Living in Utica held a celebration, including performances by "Sweet and Low," a choir made up of people who attend the adult day service at RCIL. These folks remain in their homes or with family members because they have a place to receive the nutrition, socialization and hygeine care they need. If not for this program, many of them would be in nursing homes.

The Americans with Disabilities Act prohibits discrimination based on disability and was signed into law on July 26th, 1990 by President George H.W. Bush.
