Rabid skunk bites man in Town of Winfield

(WKTV) - Herkimer County Public Health has confirmed a case of a rabid skunk that bit a man in his home in the Town of Winfield.

In the past week, a man was attacked by the skunk, who was sent to Wadsworth Laboratory and confirmed to be infected with the rabies virus. The man has started post-exposure rabies treatment.

Residents of Herkimer County are advised to consider all wild animals as potentially rabid and all bites are required to be reported to Public Health.
