Refugee soccer team plays first game in Utica

By WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - As the World Cup begins Thursday, so does a unique soccer team in Utica. The team is called the Utica Fugee's. It's a part of a youth soccer program for refugee students who play with only donated supplies.

Thursday's game was held at the South Park soccer field.
The organizer, Tiffany Azzarito created the team in order to give refugee students an opportunity to play an organized sport, without the high costs.
The Utica Fugee's cost the kids nothing, so the organization relies on donations.
What they need:
-Soccer balls
-Cleats, shinguards & tee shirts
-Outdoor team registration fees, to name a few.
If you would like to donate, you can email Tiffany Azzarito at
