Registered sex offender accused of not reporting correct address

(WKTV) - An Otsego County Jail inmate and registered level three sex offender now faces felony charges for allegedly not reporting a correct address, officials said.

Christopher Root, 39, formerly of Oneonta, is charged with felony offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree and falsifying business recordss in the first degree.

According to the sheriff's office, on July 15, Root was released from jail and filled out a sex offender registration change of address form indicating he wsa moving to a residence on North Seventh Street in the City of Oneonta.

A recent investigation showed Root allegedly never lived at the address he supplied to the sheriff's office that became part of his sex offender file. Root is currently serving a jail sentence for criminal trespass.

If convicted, Root faces up to four years in prison.
