Remaining homes demolished as F.X. Matt Brewery expansion moves forward

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The last home standing where the F.X. Matt Brewery plans to expand was demolished Thursday and soon, Court Street will have a whole new look.

The F.X. Matt Brewery Company has purchased most of the homes and businesses on the street and tore them down to create a green park and a new anaerobic digester.

"What that is going to do is treat our wastewater and help the whole municipal sewer system. And we are also going to generate about 40% of our electricity with it," said Nick Matt, Chairman and CEO of the F.X. Matt Brewery Company.

What is currently piles of wood, glass, and metal will be transformed into an area for converting waste water into usable energy and a scenic park for Saranac Thursday goers to enjoy.

"Some people would like to sit at a picnic table and just listen to the music and talk," said Matt. "They are going to be able to come over to the park when we have more significant bands that play. There is going to be a lot of space for people to lie down on blankets if they want to and it is going to clean up the whole area."

The entire project is expected to be completed by July 2013, in time for next year's Boilermaker.
