Remington Educational Complex deemed safe

By WKTV News

The Remington Educational Complex in Ilion has been deemed safe and officials say students were never in danger after a potential threat was identified there Tuesday.

The complex houses both school-aged and adult educational programs through the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES.

"Our students were never in danger today," Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivaqua said. "We, however, take all threats seriously. We had a plan in place, and everything went according to that plan."

When the potential threat was identified, Herkimer BOCES officials immediately called law enforcement, who advised officials evacuate the building.

Students in the Pathways Academy at the Remington Educational Complex were bused to the BOCES William E. Busacker Complex in East Herkimer. Students were dismissed and bused from there at normal times.

Adult education students at the Remington Educational Complex were dismissed for the day.

Law enforcement officials investigated and deemed the building safe. Ilion police are investigating the incident further.

School at the complex will resume as normal Wednesday.

"The students were very well behaved during this process," Vivacqua said. "We appreciate that the kids were calm, orderly and followed directions."
