Remsen students get together for Christmas Extravaganza

By WKTV News

REMSEN, N.Y. (WKTV) - Elementary students in the Remsen School District took a field trip to the high school Thursday and got a chance to get into the holiday spirit.

High School Home and Careers Teacher Sharon Geer puts the Christmas Extravaganza in motion.

" The classes do some research on age appropriate activities for the students from Pre-K, Kindergarten, first grade, and second grade, so they learn new skills," Geer said.

About 100 high school students volunteer their time as part of the program.

Together, the students create beautiful ornaments, do arts and crafts, have a chance to get their faces painted, and even get to tell Santa what's on their wish list this year.

" The high school students have to learn how to work with younger children," Geer said. " They have to understand their needs, and they learn to give instead of receive. It's part of our volunteer program. "

The students do not get school credit for volunteering their time. They do it out of the kindness of their hearts.
