Republicans talk issues at GOP picnic

MIDDLEVILLE, NY (WKTV) - Republicans from Central New York and all over the Empire State joined together for the GOP picnic in Herkimer County.

The event was the perfect opportunity for GOP members to network and voice their opinions on the political issues of the day.

Jay Townsend, who is seeking the Republican line to challenge veteran Senator Charles Schumer, says Herkimer County is a friendly area for conservative Republicans.

Townsend expressed his concerns about the current economy. Many Local businesses as well as dairy farms are in deep trouble due to the economic downfall. Townsend stated that a solution needs to be made.

But conversations stretched across many political issues.

"There's 62 counties in New York and were going to as many gatherings as we can, speaking to as many people as we can, meeting as many people as we can and talking to everybody that will care to listen to our message," Townsend said.

The Picnic was held at the grounds of the Crystal Chandelier in Middleville.

Townsend is running against Gary Berntsen in a Republican primary.
