Residents dragged into dispute between windmill company and contractor

FAIRFIELD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A dispute between the company who built the windmills in the Town of Fairfield and a contractor they hired has expanded to dragging landowners who have nothing to do with the project into the dispute.

Jim Salamone, a resident on Davis Road in Fairfield, has opposed the windmill project since day one. Recently, Salamone received a letter stating his property had a lien on it by the Saunders Concrete Company INC.

In all, 33 properties were shown in the document to have a lien on them.

It was three years ago that Salamone first noticed his property was listed as part of the project, even though no equipment or turbine would ever cross his land. Since that day, he has been fighting the listing.

Since the lien notice was sent to Salamone, Iberdrola Renewables, the company who built the windmills in Fairfield, wrote a letter apologizing for the mistake.

"We apologize for any concern or distress this issue may be causing and we regret it occurred", stated the letter. "Please be assured Iberdrola Renewables is working as quickly as possible to resolve this matter and remove the liens."

The letter is signed by the project manager.

Despite the letter, Salamone fears the worst.

"This lien is going to affect my credit rating," Salamone said. "I want to move out of here. I can not live with the noise these things make or the size of them. I can not sell my house. I can't get a loan, so what am I supposed to do now? I have to wait for these people and I don't have anything to do with these people."
