Retailers ready for big returns after Christmas

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Consumers are expected to return $62.7 billion dollars worth of holiday merchandise Wednesday according to the National Retail Federation.

If you're making the rounds bringing back unwanted gifts, prepare for long lines, and perhaps some aggravation.

The best advice, be prepared.

Have all tags on the items and have your gift receipt handy.

Also, bring your driver's license.

Finally, try to return items within 14 days, otherwise you might only be allowed to get a store credit.

At The Olde Wicker Mill in New Hartford, Owner Laura Misiaszek, is bucking the trend of taking the tough approach to returns.

She says, " We issue store credit into the end of January. If we are getting into February, it is going to depend on the product you bring back. We don't want a winter coat back at the end of March."

The Olde Wicker Mill will even take back some merchandise, that maybe wasn't purchased at the store, if it's an item they have in stock.
