Road crews ready for impending weather change

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - With the big change in weather conditions come a lot of watchful eyes.

Road crews all over the Mohawk Valley are already out making sure the roads are safe.

The sudden change from rain to below freezing temperatures could lead to very dangerous situations on the roads, with icing happening not only quickly but heavily. That's why crews with the Department of Transportation have been out since about 10 a.m. Monday.

"Anytime you have that mixed bag of precipitation and where the weather goes from one temperature extreme to another, you want to make sure you're right on top of it," said Jim Piccola, New York State DOT regional spokesman.

"Our foremen are out there looking at pavement conditions, and ad soon as these temperatures start dropping, we're out their spreading salt," he said.
