Robbery attempt avoided at New Hartford Friendly's

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man allegedly attempted to rob the Friendly's store on Burrstone Road in the Town of New Hartford Thursday evening.

Stefan H. Rubitski, 31, Utica, is accused of walking into the ice cream shop and handing an employee a note demanding money.

Customers were enjoying meals and dessert both inside and outside of the restaurant at the time of the attempted robbery.

According to New Hartford police, employees were able to keep Rubitski from leaving the store without any money. Police took Rubitski as soon as they arrived on the scene.

No one was injured during the robbery and no weapons were displayed.

Rubitski was arraigned in the Town of New Hartford Court. He's charged with Robbery. He's being held at Oneida County Jail in lieu of $10,000.00 bail.

The New Hartford Police were assisted at the scene by the New York Mills Police Department, the Utica Police Department, the Yorkville Police Department, Kirkland Police Department, Whitestown Police Department and the Whitesboro Police Department.
