ROME, N.Y. - "A great party- for an even greater cause." Rome Mayor Joe Fusco hosted his inaugural charity ball Saturday evening. It was held at The Beeches Inn and Conference Center.

Tickets were $50 per person. All of the proceeds will go towards the Capitol Theater Project. It's a project that aims to bring new life to the historic building on West Dominick Street.

"It's one of the anchors of our old downtown. It's a magnificent building from the 1928 era. It still has the original organ that was in it when they started playing silent movies back then. It's a very significant project for our community as we're trying to rebuild the heart and soul of our community," said Mayor Fusco.

The charity ball was held in honor of the late Anthony Darcangelo. He was a city councilor and community leader who passed away earlier this year.

Mayor Fusco choked up when he spoke about how much the project meant to his colleague. "Part of that heart and soul was Anthony Darcangelo, who gave many an hour to restoring the Capitol Theater and the insides, working with local groups like the Lions Club and such. It's really one of the most outstanding facilities in our community and we're trying very hard to maintain it."
