Rome Police opens a new medical return unit

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Rome Police Department opened a new Med-Return Unit on Thursday.

The unit is a green metal container where residents can discard their unused, unwanted and expired medication safely.

The idea behind the drop-off container is to prevent biohazards and/or medications from getting into the wrong hands.

The container is being provided by the Utica-based not-for-profit organization, Center for Family Life and Recovery, along with the United Way of Rome and Western Oneida County.

Both organizations helped provide the Utica Police with a similar unit last year.

The Med-Return Unit will be available for use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
