Rome Police release identity of second homicide victim

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Rome Police are releasing the identity of the victim in the March 28th, 2013 homicide that happened on Stevens Street.

The victim is identified as 32 year-old Jason L. Oates. Oates, who also used the alias “Clutch” or “Klutch”.

Police say he is originally from Madison, Alabama.

At 10:51 pm on Thursday, March 28th, officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Stevens Street.

When officers arrived, they discovered an unresponsive adult male, who had been struck by gunfire, lying on the roadway.

Oates was pronounced dead at the scene.

Oates traveled frequently between Alabama and the Rome area over the past few years and was residing on the 300 block of Williams Street in Rome at the time of this incident.

Rome police believe the suspect in this case is a male of unknown race and age, who was last seen wearing a dark colored hooded jacket. The suspect was observed running from the shooting scene, in a westerly direction ,towards North Madison Street.

No arrests have been made at this time.
