Rome fire officials investigating two Friday night fires

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Rome firefighters were called to a house fire around 10:40 Friday night at 501 South James Street.

Fire officials say firefighters made an aggressive interior attack with hose lines deployed on the first and second floor simultaneously.

Due to the close proximity of the structure at 503 South James Street another hose line was used to protect the exposure.

Fire officials say the building was undergoing extensive renovations.

Many of the interior wall coverings were removed which contributed to the extensive fire spread.

The building suffered extensive fire and water damage throughout the entire structure.

The structure next door at 503 S. James Street suffered slight damage to the siding.

Fire crews remained on the scene until around 1:30 Saturday morning conducting overhaul operations.

Ten additional firefighters were called back to man the station and at around 11:45 Friday night they were dispatched to a structure fire at 114 Dwight Drive.

This building also suffered severe damage.
