Rome man accused of burglarizing home

(WKTV) - A Rome man faces a burglary charge after police say he broke into a home on North George Street.

Michael K. Townsend, 39, of East Thomas Street in Rome, is charged with second-degree burglary after he was arrested Tuesday.

According to Rome police, officers responded to an alarm on North George Street around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. Officers discovered fresh snow tracks leading to a broken window at the home. A man was seen crawling out of a broken window and was taken into custody. Police say he had copper piping that had been cut from the plumbing system in the basement of the home.

Townsend is being held in the Rome Police lockup.
