Rome man arrested, charged with murder

ROME, NY (WKTV) - A Rome man has been arrested and charged with second degree murder following an investigation into a stabbing incident which occurred Saturday night.

Rome police responded to the 300 block of East Bloomfield Street for a reported stabbing just before 7 p.m.  Upon arrival, officers located an adult female victim who had sustained stab wounds.

The victim, identified as 45 year-old Carrie Werenski, was transported to Rome Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.  The suspect is identified as 46 year-old Rome resident Christopher J. Werenski, the estranged husband of Carrie. 

He was located shortly after the incident and taken into custody. Christopher J. Werenski is being held in Rome Police lockup pending arraignment in City Court.

Rome Police will release more information on this case on Monday, July 28th.
