Rome man arrested on sex offense charges

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneida County Sheriff's Department announced the arrest of a Rome man on sex offense charges, Friday.

Chief Deputy, Dean Obernesser, Director of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, said that Nori Powell, 19, was arrested and charged with two counts of Sexual Abuse in the 2nd Degree, and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both Class A Misdemeanors.

According to the Chief Deputy, Rome City Police Officer Christopher Shean responded to a call on W. Dominick Street, on Wednesday, August 21, and encountered Powell with an underage individual at the residence.

After arriving at the residence, Officer Shean immediately contacted Rome City Police Detective, Richard Galluppi, of the Oneida County CAC, and a brief investigation into the matter took place.

Following the investigation, Powell was arrested and charged, on Thursday, with the crimes. He was held in Rome City Police lock-up overnight and will be arraigned, Friday, in Rome City Court.

The victim, who has not been identified, has been offered counseling services through the CAC.
