Rome man charged after threatening officer

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man has been arrested on multiple charges after an unusual encounter during a traffic stop, Friday morning.
According to Oneida County Sheriff's officials, Shawn Smith, was pulled over after running through a stop sign on Turin Rd. in Rome at around 9:40 a.m.
When the Sheriff's Deputy approached the vehicle, Smith became verbally abusive and threatened to run the officer over.
Smith, who had a six-year-old child in the car with him at the time, allegedly began to rev his engine and continued to threaten the Deputy.
In addition to his initial traffic violation, he has been charged with menacing, harassment, resisting arrest and endangering the welfare of a child.

He will answer the charges at a later date.
