Rome man charged with marijuana possession

(WKTV) - A Rome man faces charges after a five-month investigation involving the sale and possession of marijuana, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said.

Charles L. Sheppard, 38, of the 100 block of Fisk Avenue, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the first degree, a Class C felony.

According to officials, at about 9 p.m. Thursday members of the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit/Narcotics, along with the Rome Police Department's Detective/Special Investigation Unit Division, executed a search warrant at an apartment on Fisk Avenue. Authorities say during a search of the home, more than 10 pounds of marijuana and a quantity of cash was discovered. According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Narcotics Unit, the value of the marijuana is in excess $65,000.

Sheppard is being held in the Rome City Lockup.
