Rome man charged with sex abuse

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man has been charged following a reported sexual assault.

According to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, Michael W. Johnson, 34 has been charged with first-degree sex abuse after an investigation into a sexual assault reported earlier in the month in the city of Rome.

Johnson was held in Rome City Police lock-up overnight and arraigned in Rome City Court Friday morning. He has been remanded without bail to the Oneida County Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings.

The case will be presented to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office for Grand Jury consideration. The victim has been offered counseling through the Advocacy Center.
