Rome man faces child abuse charges as he's released from jail

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man being released from Oneida County Jail was re-arrested during his release, this time on new charges.

According to the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center, Stephen Deprospero, 36, was being released from the Oneida County Jail on March 2 for a sentence served for possession of child pornography.

The new charge of first-degree criminal sexual act was lodged after investigators developed information that Deprospero had allegedly sexually abused a child at a local Central New York Developmental Services Office residence where he once worked.

Deprospero was arraigned in the Town of Whitestown Court and sent back to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. Deprospero has since been transferred to the custody of the U.S. Marshal's Service, where he is facing federal charges in the same case.

The case is still under investigation, and will be turned over to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office for grand jury review.
