Rome man formally indicted on rape, unlawful imprisonment charges

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man has been formally charged with several sex crimes regarding a 28-year-old female victim.

John Santoro, 25, of Rome, is accused of second-degree kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree, three counts of first-degree rape, aggravated sex abuse in the third-degree and criminal sex act.

The alleged crimes happened June 10 of this year in Rome.

Santoro was due in Rome City Court Wednesday morning for a felony exam, but the indictment against him precluded the need for the hearing. He'd have likely been transported from the Oneida County Jail to city court in order to waive the hearing on the record, but the jail is on quarantine due to a scabies outbreak.
