(WKTV) - A Rome man was injured Monday in an accident in the Town of Floyd.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, C.L. Velazquez, 25, lost control of his 1998 Buick while driving westbound on River Road at about 7:40 p.m. Monday. The Buick was rounding a bend on a freshly oiled and stoned surface when it traveled across the center of the road and off the roadway, striking a road sign, several small trees and the guide wires to a utility pole, which caused a power outage in the area.

Velazquez was transported to Rome Memorial Hospital. He is scheduled to appear at Floyd Town Court on citations of not wearing a seat belt, failure to keep right and speed not reasonable.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Floyd Fire Department.
