(WKTV) - A Rome woman was injured Sunday in a snowmobile accident, the Oneida County Sheriff's Department said.
Carol E. Pettinelli, 75, of Rome was riding with family members on an unimproved snowmobile trail near the Dollar General Plaza in north Rome, officials said. As Pettinelli was crossing Turin Road on a 2003 Arctic Cat snowmobile, she lost control negotiating a steep earth embankment with a 90-degree left turn. Officials say the force of the impact at the base of the embankment caused Pettinelli to accelerate forward, striking a snow bank in the Dollar General parking lot. The snowmobile overturned, pinning Pettinelli beneath. A 7-year-old relative riding with Pettinelli was ejected, but not injured.
Pettinelli was treated at the scene by members of Rome and Lake Delta Fire Departments and transported to Rome Hospital with a possible leg fracture.
No summons were issued.
