Route 12 shut down for short time following accident

KIRKLAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Waterville man escaped injury and his wife sustained minor injuries following the accident that occurred on State Route 12 in the Town of Kirkland Tuesday.

According to Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy Mark R Chrysler, Stanley Cesaire, 32, of Waterville, was driving north in a Nissan SUV at around 11:17 a.m. on December 14, when he lost control of his vehicle on a snow-covered curve that was just north of Chuckery Corners.

Authorities said the SUV crossed the southbound lane then struck an earth embankment that was located on the west side of the road. The SUV continued north, where it overturned onto it's roof and came to rest in the road.

Cesaire's wife, Gethel Cesaire, 23, was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle and sustained a minor head injury. She was evaluated at the scene, but refused transport to the hospital.

Route 12 was closed for about an hour between Chuckery Corners and Tibbitts Road in the Town of New Hartford while the scene was being investigated and the vehicle removed from the roadway.

Deputy Chrysler said that Cesaire was ticketed for driving at a speed that was not reasonable or prudent for the road conditions and is scheduled to appear in Kirkland Town Court in January.

Volunteers from the Clinton Fire Department and Central Oneida County Ambulance along with the Kirkland and New Hartford Police Departments all assisted at the scene.
