SUNY IT Walk tries to stomp out food allergies

By SPENCER DAVIDSON

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) -  People walked the campus of SUNY IT with the hopes of reducing the danger from food allergies, Sunday.

The FARE walk, a 2.3 mile walk, was held in order to raise money and awareness for food allergies that can create devastating, adverse health effects.

The walk began as a vision by a mother of a young boy who suffers from allergic reactions to certain food, and a local teacher who deals with students with allergies, daily.

Now, the event is the fist of its kind in the Mohawk Valley area, and includes food friendly vendors, serving things such as Wowbutter, a peanut-less peanut butter substitute, in order to support the cause.

The registration for the walk was free, but people were able to donate for the cause online.

So far $19,000 have been raised by the walk.
