SUNY schools join coalition to support Common Core

By WKTV News

(WKTV) - College and university leaders from 33 states have banded together to form a new coalition to support Common Core standards.

All 64 State University of New York schools have signed on as part of Higher Ed for Higher Standards.

"These standards are good for our students, our states and our country," said Nancy Zimpher, SUNY chancellor. "We must have students that are college- and career-ready in order for the United States to continue to compete and win in the 21st century global economy.

Higher Ed for Higher Standards takes the position that Common Core standards can help colleges and universities reduce remediation rates and improve student success.

Zimpher said the coalition would work with K-12 partners and state policy makers to ensure implementation of Common Core standards.
