SALISBURY, N.Y. (AP) - State police say an 11-year-old girl has lost her left hand after she crashed an off-road utility vehicle.

Troopers say Ciearra Camarata was driving a 2013 Polaris Ranger near her home in the Herkimer County town of Salisbury Sunday morning when she lost control and crashed, with the vehicle rolling over onto the driver's side.

Police say the girl was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center and then airlifted to Strong Memorial in Rochester for further treatment of the severed hand. A hospital spokeswoman had no information Monday on the girl.

A 12-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy who were riding with her weren't hurt.

New York law allows children 10 and older to operate ATVs on their parents' property and under adult supervision.
