Sandbags unfortunately a common sight in Middleville and Newport

MIDDLEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Sandbags have become a major part of the scenery in the Village of Middleville and in some parts of the village, have proven to be its salvation.

Sandbags succeeded in keeping water off of Route 28 near Fishing Rock Road. Firefighters estimate volunteers filled several thousand sandbags since Thursday.

They say pretty much everyone in the village pitched in to help fill the bags and save their homes.

It was a similar scene in the Village of Newport where sandbags, for the most part, kept the West Canada Creek at bay for homewoners, although there were some tense moments Thursday night night when its waves were licking at the top of the bags.
