Scalise to run for Utica's 4th Ward, to be challenged by Marino

UTICA, N.Y. - A longtime city official has announced her plans to run once again for the Utica Common Council's 4th Ward.

Due to City of Utica term limits, this will be Joan Scalise's final bid for the position.

"I have been in City Government with nearly 30-years experience as senior accountant, disbursements officer, as your city comptroller, and as a member of the City of Utica Common Council, holding the positions of Council-at-Large and, most recently, representing the 4th Ward. During this time, I have been a hands-on public servant and an advocate for constituents and taxpayers alike", states Scalise.

Scalise claims that over the years, her investment strategies have resulted in increasing the city's bond rating from "junk bond" to investment grade.

Scalise will be challenged for the position by Utica accountant Joe Marino, who is also seeking the 4th Ward seat.

Marino, a Democrat, 31, born, raised, and educated in the City of Utica stated

"I love the city of Utica very much and is time to inject new and young blood into the city government," Marino said when he made his announcement several months ago. "With my financial background and business sense, I believe I can really make a difference especially in our current economic climate."

He is currently the accountant for the law firm of Brindisi, Murad, Brindisi, Pearlman, Julian and Pertz, LLP.
