Scouts prep for National Jamboree

By EMMA WRIGHT

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It is a busy weekend for Boy Scouts around Central New York. The Scouts are preparing to attend the National Scout Jamboree in Virginia.

The Jamboree only happens once every four years.  It starts on July 26th.

70 Scouts from the Revolutionary Trails Council, (which is made up of Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Lewis and Otsego Counties)  will be joining 40,000 to 50,000 thousand others from around the country.

The Jamboree is the highlight of the Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary.

The trek down to Virginia has been in the works for a whole year.  Getting the guys packed and ready for a 10 day trip isn't exactly a snap.

"We've had some low points and some high points," says Eagle Scout Kyle Coia of Rome. "We've had to return some of the gear because it was broken or didn't accommodate what we needed," he said.

One thing the Boy Scouts never leave home without is their motto: be prepared.  They say they are ready to take on the challenge of the National Scout Jamboree.

"It beats sitting home and playing video games all week," said Josh Reed of Rome.
