Search for Levon Wameling picks up in wooded area in Marcy

By WKTV News

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Officials resumed their search for Levon Wameling Monday morning, this time in a wooded area on Church Road in Marcy.

Officials had said that searches for the nine-month-old would happen only if specific evidence was discovered.

State Police, FBI, DEC and Utica police began their search just before 8 am in a 30 acre wooded area.

Sgt. Steve Hauck said, " It's some information we've been developing for the past week or so, so we felt it was important to come up here and check it."

The search is taking place in a dense area with a lot of trees and high grass. Forest rangers are taking over that part of the search.

Levon Wameling was last seen on the front porch of his father, Jevon Wameling's home at 748 Jay Street in Utica on May 29th.

" As far as we're concerned, we are just going wherever the case leads us," Hauck said. " We are not making any determination on whether he is alive or not, that's not for police to say, but if we get information that seems reasonable to help us find Levon, one way or another we are going to search it."

Authorities hope to finish the search today, weather permitting, but they say the conditions are tough.
