Senator Seward to focus on education in 2014

By WKTV News

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - State Senator James Seward (R-Oneonta) laid out his 2014 agenda and many of its priorities, Wednesday.

The top priority? Education.

Seward said that education will be a focal point of his efforts in Albany this year. He said that he will work on bringing more funding for local schools, especially those classified as low wealth and high need.

The Senator also spoke about his view on the controversial "Common Core."

"I would support legislation that would hit the pause button when it comes to the Common Core so we can step back, and take time to get this right," Seward said.

He also supports pulling back on high stakes testing, and protecting the privacy of student and teacher information.
