Several stolen guns seized in Utica Neilson Street arrest

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Utica man is facing multiple charges after police found numerous stolen handguns in his possession.

On September 1, the Utica Police Department's Metro Unit, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, executed a no-knock search warrant in the 1600 block of Neilson Street.

Investigators and police officers had developed information that Freddie D. Lawrence, 32, of Utica, was in possession of several stolen handguns at the Neilson Street location.

Inside the residence, investigators located four handguns (two .22 calibers, a .380 and a .44 caliber) and a long gun (7.62). Also located were several boxes of ammunition for each of the guns.

Authorities said the investigation is continuing and that at least three of the handguns were reported stolen earlier this year in a burglary in Lewis County.

Investigators also located marijuana, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia at the house.

Lawrence was taken into custody without incident and is now facing multiple felony charges, including four counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, and two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.
