Shop local initiatives paying off

By WKTV News

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - The shop local initiative that kicked off the Saturday after Thanksgiving has paid off locally this holiday season.

Stores in New Hartford like The Village Toy Shop and Colozzi's say they've seen a boost in sales through November...and into December.

They say business is actually continuing to pick up with just five shopping days left before the big gift-giving exchange.

Village Toy Shop co-owner Tom Willis says, "Back in November, when American Express had Small Business Saturday, a lot of people were conscious of keeping their purchases local, and since then, we've had a lot of people who are continuing to come and shop."

Store Owner Sam Colozzi says, " December started off slowly, however the last seven eight nine days have been unbelievably successful. People continue to buy locally."

Store owners say getting people in the mindset of shopping local is half the battle.
