Shoplifting at Sangertown leads to felony drug charges

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A shoplifting incident leads to an arrest and felony drug charges Friday.

Thomas J. Betti, 32, of Utica, was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

New Hartford Police said Betti was being detained in the store for shoplifting at the Sangertown Square Mall. He allegedly stole more than $1,000 in clothing from Macy's.

Betti was searched and several small envelopes containing Heroin were allegedly found on his person, police said. There was also an active bench warrant out for him in the Town of New Hartford and in the City of Utica.

He was arraigned in the New Hartford Town Court and taken to Oneida County Jail.
