ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - Years of talent took to the stage inside the auditorium at Rome Free Academy Saturday night. The "Show People" Cabaret brought together current students and some alumni for some special performances.

RFA's band director came up with the idea in order to showcase all of the talent that Rome has to offer. "We started the cabaret about 5 years to showcase more students," said Jake Meiss, the band director at RFA. "We have a lot of really talented students here at RFA and we could never show everything that we wanted to show in a single musical in a year, so we use this as an opportunity to pair up different groups of kids, some students and some alumni and let them kind of show off a little bit."

Meiss says the event is also an opportunity for some of the younger singers to pick up some pointers from the veteran performers.

The audience enjoyed music from The Lion King, Sweeney Todd, Rent and much more. Admission to the event was free, but people were encouraged to make a donation to the school's upcoming musical.
