MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - While their neighbors cash state flood relief checks and make repairs to their homes, the Healys, of Warren Rd., in Mohawk, watch the mail carrier every day, hoping that will be the day.
"The people on the other end state they have no way of tracking it," says Todd Healy of multiple attempts to e-mail state flood relief workers at numbers they retrieve from websites.
They've received no check, no request for more information and no rejection letter.
"I explained to the gentleman I said I have no furnace. It's getting 40 degrees at night, 45. You wake up, you have to put a coat on. I said, you know, where is it?"
The Healys in just days filled an envelope with 30-40 receipts for materials for repairs they paid for out of pocket, with help from family and friends.
The floods this summer filled their basement to within an inch of their home's first floor. They lost everything in the basement, and one of their two vehicles.
"You've never seen something like that or you see it on tv and you say to yourself, 'oh, that'll never happen to me'. Well, it can happen to anybody."
The Healy's contact at the state level has not yet returned our e-mail.
